Bladensburg, Maryland
Dear Parents, Students, Teachers,
People in this county needed a miracle. After months of poor press, Prince George's County Office of Federal Programs,
Title 1 Office has pulled off a coup:
Children are finally being tutored with No Child Left Behind, funds - and loving it!
As 7 year old Kimberly Delgado says, "I love this school!" She is referring to Mrs. Dowd's Teaching Service (the only faith-based SES provider in the state of Maryland) housed this summer at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Bladensburg, Maryland.
Monday through Friday, children ages 5 to 12, are learning math, reading, and get this - loving it!
As Program Director Joanie Murphy put it, " To be eligible for Title 1 supplemental services (tutoring), you must be in a school that is low income. However, low income does not mean low intelligence. These students can't get enough of our summer materials! We are already moving past their current grade level into the next year's curriculum.
I thank the teachers at Bladensburg Elementary School and Nicolas Orem Middle School for their efforts and terrific teaching."
We invite the President and First Lady, US Department of Education Community and Faith-based Initiatives, state representatives, local officials, parents, and neighbors to come and witness this remarkable turn of events July 1. Please call Mrs. Dowd at 301-345-0233 for a cup of coffee, a tour of the school, and a firsthand look at what proper use of federal funds has done for the lives of l50 children in Prince George's County.
Blessed by His Presence,
Mrs. Eileen Dowd
